Full Stack Developer Role in a Fast Growing, Fun Agency Environment

  • Diverse Full Stack role – develop your skills and spread your technical and creative wings
  • Work in a fun, supportive environment where culture isn’t just a buzzword
  • Fast growing agency with massive long term career development potential!

About The Role.

We’re looking for a Full Stack Developer to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of front end languages and competencies, with some backend knowledge such as PHP / SQL. They will impress us with their outstanding work ethic and will be passionate about continuously learning and developing – plus they’ll enjoy a laugh and dabble in the odd bit of office meme-sharing and gif-posting.

This role is not design-centric, but a keen eye for modern, effective design and most of all best practice UX will be advantageous for you to achieve excellence in your role. API knowledge and general programmatic-thinking skills will be a plus as well.

About Hello Digital.

We’re a fast-growing, fresh, progressive digital marketing agency based in leafy New Farm, Brisbane. We provide digital marketing services to businesses of all sizes nation-wide and deliver the full range of digital from paid media, social and SEO to creative services and analytics. We partner with our clients, putting them at the centre of our focus, rather than forcing them to fit into the way we do things.

This is more than a job. With us, you’ll be developing skills and experiences that will impact your career for decades to come, in a culture where having a laugh isn’t just reserved for Friday afternoons.

The future holds huge potential and the scope of digital is no longer a “below the line” concern. With this in mind, we’re focusing and investing heavily in product development and innovation, meaning the sky’s the limit for our staff to stretch their creative wings and evolve with us.

In the simplest version of our story, we’re building a close-knit, diverse team of engaged, talented people who are pumped to come to work every day and do great work, but then go home on time and have a full life outside of work.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Translating simple wireframes, style guides and briefs into finished, beautiful websites primarily but not exclusively on WordPress CMS.
  • Utilising third party plugins to layout designs to allow client-friendly editable websites, whilst still implementing fully custom coded front-end design elements and conducting the majority of site styling using custom HTML, CSS and JS.
  • Finding advanced and innovative ways of implementing designs with a focus on superior creativity without compromising technical factors such as site speed.
  • Staying up to date on and following best-practice technical SEO methods.
  • Autonomously spinning up dev environments and staging sites, migrating between dev, staging and production according to project requirements.
  • Using your technical skills and creative problem solving to find issues and deliver logical and innovative solutions to problems.
  • Utilising our project management systems to optimise your workflow and ultimately deliver more value to the team and our clients.
  • Integrating detailed note-taking and documentation of development operations into your daily workflow to ensure easy project handovers and minimise risk of project creep.
  • Providing input into product development and operational improvement initiatives (for example, developing an internal tool to save time or provide valuable analysis).
  • Demonstrating to clients and colleagues an understanding of the full picture regarding our industry, your specialisations, or a client’s businesses.
  • Contributing to the development of Quarterly Business Reviews and collaborating with colleagues in Client Partnership roles to maximise the value for clients and thus longevity of client relationships.
  • Utilising impeccable time management, personal organisational skills and economic thinking to balance the best use of your time.
  • Going above and beyond to ensure your team’s needs and client needs are not just met but exceeded.
  • Develop and work on your career plan under the guidance of management, followed up by showing meaningful progress across any structured or unstructured training or professional development opportunities provided.
  • The career path for a Full Stack Developer will expand as the company grows, with future senior development and design roles opening, along with Team Leader and Head of Department roles coming available at the management level.

What you’ll need for this position:

  • A comprehensive understanding of HTML5 and CSS3 – you should be completely fluent in writing code in these languages.
  • Proficient in PHP and Javascript, with skills in SQL desirable.
  • Sufficient CLI experience and knowledge to be able to complete basic backend tasks.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast paced environment and push your projects and accounts forward.
  • 1-5 years experience in Full Stack development, however we are open to applicants that want to develop their skills and career in a hands-on, fast-paced agency environment.
  • An ability to work with APIs, understand build and work with data and data warehousing infrastructure will be an advantage.

A little more about us and what we offer:

  • We truly are a team and we’re all in this together. By acknowledging this, we do away with tokenism and unlock the opportunity for everyone to be a part of building the organisation they want to work within for years to come.
  • You’ll be working with great colleagues in a positive, open-minded environment where people come first.
  • We pull out all the stops and enable you to do your best, whether it’s having the best technology at your fingertips or simply having a range of healthy and not-so-healthy food options available all day on us.
  • We value continuous learning and development, and structure this into your day-to-day wherever possible.
  • To us, culture isn’t a buzzword, it’s in everything we do. It’s built from the ground up starting with our team, not top down by executive decree.
  • Many of our team members spend time together outside of work, from regular camping trips to restaurant excursions or simply extending Friday afternoon beers into the night.
  • Speaking of Friday afternoons, every Friday at 4pm sharp is beer o’clock. We even have a countdown timer.
